On February 22nd-24th, 2017, The Teacher’s Gallery will host an International Leadership Summit and Seminar on Inclusive Education in Manila (Philippines). The event is organised in partnership with SM Care and SMX Convention Centre Manila, and in collaboration with various other stakeholders, including Australian Aid, Leonard Cheshire Disability Philippines Foundation and Save the Children. The theme of the Summit is “I Am You. Opening Minds, Opening Hearts: Putting Values into Action”.
We are very excited to announce that the Global Observatory for Inclusion (GLOBI) was invited to present the #DrawDisability global campaign at the Summit. On February 23rd at 8.30 am Philippines time, Andrea Pregel, Co-founder and President of GLOBI, will participate in live streaming from the UK, and Rolando Jr. Villamero, Co-founder and Vice President of GLOBI, will participate with a video contribution. GLOBI’s presentation will summarise the main highlights of the #DrawDisability campaign, share some insights from #DrawDisability workshops conducted in the Philippines, and provide a unique perspective on how children and youth worldwide understand issues of disability, inclusion and discrimination worldwide.
GLOBI will also present a small #DrawDisability Exhibition which will be available for the entire duration of the Summit. The exhibition will include accessible videos of chldren and youth describing their #DrawDisability artworks, Andrea Pregel’s TEDxCrocetta talk, and a video excerpts from the #DrawDisability Hangouts, featuring experts such as Prof. Tom Shakespeare (University of East Anglia) and Paula Hunt (Inclusive Education Specialist, UNICEF).
Other speakers who will participated in the summit include Dr. Tony Booth, Research Fellow at the Centre for Commonwealth Education, University of Cambridge (UK); David Hoff, Program Director of Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI), University of Massachusetts (US); Hideko Miyagawa, UNICEF Philippines Chief of Education. The Summit will also feature messages from Honorable Maria Leonor Robredo, Vice President of the Philippines, and Amanda Gorely, Australian Ambassador to the Philippines. The Summit will address the following topics:
